Municipal water distribution maintenance is very important for sustainable urban development. Water pipe-breaks result not only in disrupting service but also in significant loss of water, and bring a lot of trouble to the consumer. According the researching result of correlation in civil and foreign, The thesis make research on water pipe-breaks based on the concepts of geographic information systems theory, the Analytic Hierarchy process and pipe-breaks theory. The main content of this paper include the follows:(1)To differentiate pipe break and pipe leak, the concept of pipe break need to be defined. The causes of pipe breaks and it's influencing factors are analyzed, and some conclusions are presented. The technological factors which restricts the way of traditional water pipe-breaks analysis are pointed out.(2)The concepts and technology of GIS (Geographic Information Systems) is introduced into the water pipe-breaks analysis. The paper introduces the theory and technology of GIS and the function of urban water supply distribution network geographic information systems. From the angle of geographic space, A new thought of analysis of pipe-breaks influencing factor based on GIS is brought forward. The influencing factors are quantitative by spatial analysis, the space relationship between the pipe break accident and it's influencing factors are fined by the spatial association analysis, then the most dangerous pipes are drawn.(3) The type and characteristic of the water pipe-breaks forecast model are discussed. And a new method of water pipe security assessment based on the grid arithmetic thought is brought forward. The analytic hierarchy process is adopted for determining the weight of each influencing factors, then the pipe-breaks dangerous assessment model of water mains is established by the grid analysis.(4) From the demand of handling accident and emergency in advance case, the thesisintroduces the method that structure the water distribution network model. And the network analysis of the water distribution pipeline system has been realized on the basis of this model, and the hidden accident coverage has been ascertained, that provide the technical support for working out an emergency in advance case.(5)From the aspects of the design, planning and management of water distribution network, the paper explored the countermeasures of pipe break in water distribution system. And the suggestions that can perfect the function the function of urban water supply distribution network GIS have been brought forward.
