The floristic composition, characteristics, rare and endangered plants, important wild plants for conversation in Damingshan National Nature Reserve of Guangxi were researched based on field investigation. The main results are as follows:1. There are1721vascular plant species(including variety and forma), belonging to764genera in212families in Damingshan National Nature Reserve. Among them,296species of pteridophytes,14species of gymnosperms,1411species of angiosperms belong to112genera in45families,9genera in6families and643genera in141families respectively.2. The dominant families of pteridophytes are Dryopteridaceae, Polypodiaceae, Thelypteridaccac. Athyriaceae, Pteridaceae, Aspleniaceae, adding up to44genera and167species, and covering39.3%and56.4%of the total pteridophytes genera and species respectively in Damingshan National Natrue Reserve. The dominant genera of pteridophytes are Pteris, Dryopteris. Asplenium, Allantodia, Cyclosorus, Athyriaceae, Polystichum, adding up to82species and covering27.7%of the total pteridophytes in Damingshan National Natrue Reserve. Families which cantain only one species occupy28.9%of the totel families, and that cantain less than five species occupy37.8%of the totel families, genera cantain only one species occupy79.97%of the total genera. The tropical and subtropical endemic elements are dominant for the pteridophytes in the region.3. The gymnosperms are scarce, only Pinus taiwanensis and Tsuga longibracteata have formed small communities. The dominant angiosperm families are Lauraceae, Rubiaceae, Compositae. Orchidaceae, Rosaceae, Gramineae, Fabaceae, Theaceae, Moraceae, Cyperaceae, Urticaceae. Fagaceae, Ericaceae, Myrsinaceae, Verbenaceae, Melastomataceae, Aquifoliaceae. Acanthaceae and Labiatae, adding up to287genera and722species, covering44.6%and51.2%of the total angiosperm genera and species respectively in Damingshan National Natruc Reserve. The dominant angiosperm genera are Ficus, Ilex, Rhododendron, Rubus, Symplocos, Eurya, arex, Litsea, Ardisia, Smilax, Neolitsea, Lithocarpus, Elatostema, Cyclobalanopsis, Cinnamomum, Syzygium, Machilus and Polygonum, adding up to265species and covering18.8%of the total angiosperm species in Damingshan National Natrue Reserve.4. The tropical and subtropical elements are the dominent components in the flora of Damingshan National Nature Reserve. The pteridophyte families and genera in this area arc mainly tropical or subtropical endemic elements, covering97.3%and77.6%of the total pteridophyte families and genera(except the Cosmopolitan families and genera) respectively. For the spermatophyte, the tropical and subtropical elements cover97.3%and77.6%of the total spermatophyte families and genera(except the Cosmopolitan families and genera) respectively, and which are also obviously higher than the temperate elements whih a ratio of3.1:1and4.4:1respectively. It is therefore indicated that the temperate elements also play a role in this area.5. The constitute of most families and genera in Damingshan National Nature Reserve are lack of complexity, small families and genera and single families and genera have a large guantity than the big ones.6. There are65rare and endangered species(including5pteridophyte species,6gymnosperm species and23angiosperm species) belonging to44genera in16families in Damingshan National Nature Reserve, of which5species belong to the list of Rare and Endangered Plangts Under State Protection(Vol.1,1987),10species belong to the list of Wild Plants Under State Key Protection (1999, all species are under first class state protection), and50species were listed on the protection of Guangxi wild plants list. In addition, according to the author’s field investigation and the IUCN’s Evaluation Standards of endangered species,106species are suggested to be listed in the list of wild plant protection.7. Five new species, nine newly recorded species for Guangxi were found in Damingshan National Nature Reserve and a error report of new distribution of Heloniopsis(Liliaceae) in mainland China was corrected here.
