Since the initiation of reform and opening up in 1986 in Laos, tourism has gained a fairly high status in its national economy. However, there still exist some problems in the course of development. Reasons of the slow progress of tourism are multiple, for example, poor and insufficient infrastructure, lack of talents and capital, irrational structure of production, inadequate effort for publicity, weak environmental management, and indistinct national image and so on. In light of that, this essay introduces theories (including basic theories of science of tourism, strategic management in tourism, marketing management, product development strategy, etc.), positive research, statistics as well as qualitative data to analyze.Thus, to study and analyze Laotian touristic status of development and seek a scientific mode of growth is of great practical significance. And there are not many articles analyzing Laotian touristic development or otherwise are restricted to description of current situation and few makes systematic analysis. This essay tends to apply the SWOT frame in management science to analyze Laotian touristic status quo from four respects of strength, weakness, opportunity and threat. Attempting to grasp on the whole the touristic development trend, the author strives to conclude beneficial suggestions for development policies.In addition, the focal point in this essay is exploitation of major projects in tourism, such as development in cultural and rural areas, sightseeing and resorts, of conferences and ecology and adventure. Theoretical guidance is given to the development.Based on strategic analysis of theories, this essay discusses status quo, problems and trends of development in tourism industry in Laos and proposes strategic analysis, choice and implementation.Theoretical research of this essay is aimed at providing ways of thinking and strategies for development and promoting touristic growth.
