Any enterprise will pursue the strengthening of competitiveness and expansion of scale ever since its establishment. During this process, enterprises, like organism, will experience different stages of development. In each of these stages, enterprises will need to construct different personnel selection models to enhance and maintain their competitiveness and thus to obtain the human resources for their survival and competition. Meanwhile, the capabilities and qualities of the staff will have to be adjusted to meet the changes in management models and operating strategy in different stages.Based on the previous studies, the paper summarizes the factors taken into account in talents selection for enterprises, analyzes the characteristics in different stages of development, explores the critical problems in the development of enterprise, integrates such issues as organization type and human resource planning, and constructs different personnel selection models suitable for different stages in the development of enterprises: a knowledge-skill-based"Inverted Pyramid Model"for the enterprises on their start-up stage, a comprehensive competence-based"Cask Model"for the enterprises on growth stage, and a potential-based"Iceberg Model"for maturation stages.By content analysis, the paper collects the factors currently adopted in talents selection and, after careful analysis of those factors, summarizes current selection modes on the basis of McClellan's Competency Model. The study shows that the requirements for the qualities of staff in different stages of enterprises follow the transitional trend from the external factor such as knowledge and skills to internal factors like personality, motivation and values. Finally, the paper compares the current selection model adopted by enterprises and the newly constructed model based on enterprise life cycle, and states the influence of the measurability of selection factors, selection cost, and the short-term profit of enterprises on personnel selection models. Corresponding strategies and suggestions are also presented after the analysis of both advantages of disadvantages of the current personnel selection models.
