| Since 1970's, High-tech Industry enjoys its marked growth all over the globe. Not only does it prove to be the leading force of regional economics,but also turn into the important symbol of both economic strength and scientific and technological strength. So does various regions in China. Up to present time, three high-tech industry compact districts have been formed, namely, Yangtze River delta, Chu Chiang delta, Bohai rim.Tianjin, the largest costal open city in the north and an important city in Bohai rim, enjoys excellent advantages and favorable foundation of economic development. As one of the first approved national high-tech industry development zone by state council in 1991, Tianjin high-tech industry have made great progress during the past two decades, thus leading the economic development of the whole city. However, compared with developed areas, such as Guangdong, Beijing, Tianjin is not without its problems and still has a long way to go. Recently Tianjin was approved as one of the eight comprehensive national high-tech industry base by National Development and Reform Committee, providing Tianjin with new opportunities and requirements simultaneously. One of the most pressing strategic problems for Tianjin is how to enhance the competitive power of Tianjin high-tech industry so as to accelerate the rapid and healthy development of the industry.After reviewing literatures of home and abroad, this research contributes to the present theory and practices in the following aspects. In the first place, the paper redefines the connotation of high-tech industry and competitive power, taking Tianjin high-tech industrial competitiveness as object of study. Secondly, on the basis of five-coordination mechanism, this research contributes to the theory of Wheel Model that makes up regional high-tech industrial competitiveness, providing measurements of regional high-tech industrial competitiveness. In addition, by analyzing the influential factors of regional high-tech industrial competitiveness, this report conduct an empirical study ,using the established measurements as well as combining single index with principle component analysis. One thing which is equally important is that this paper reports the results of an empirical study of nine provinces and cities comparing with Tianjin. Finally, to solve the existing problems, this article ends with recommendation on improving the competitive power of high-tech industry in multiple respects. |
