Based on the digital communication technology, the digital optical terminal this academic paper designed use EDA as development tool. Using VHDL programming, it tests and runs in the FPGA hardware. This digital optical terminal contains two points: the design of software and the realization of hardware. The design of software includes the digital multiplexer and the digital tap. The implementation of hardware mainly contains these aspects:the sending and receiving block of the video and voice signal, the controlling of yuntai, the level coupling of LVDS and PECL, the intergrated optical transceiver block, the converter of string, the generated of power and the configured of FPGA chip with other hardware block.The digital multiplexer is to realize two functions, which is according to the time multiplexing technology theory. One function is to merg one video signal and three voice signals into one composited signal in the sending section. Another one is to separate the composited signal into the original one video signal and three voice signals, that is according to the time tapping technology theory. These software programs were written by VHDL. It was simulated in Quartus II software. Download these programs to the FPGA chip, test and realize the function of hardware.The simulations of software include the simulation of digital multiplexer, the function block of digital multiplexer and the simulation of digital tap.After debugging programs and testing hardware function, we finally realize the bidirectional video and voice optical terminal.
