Chinese Minority Biodiversity-related Traditional Knowledge Database Design And Construction

China is one of the biodiversity richest countries in the world. There are55ethnic minorities in our country. Chinese minority traditional knowledge associated with biodiversity was grown by the long-term production and life practice accumulation, is the crystallization of collective wisdom, Traditional knowledge (TK) played a positive role in local biodiversity protection.TK associated with biodiversity contain five categories:(1) use of agricultural species and genetic resources;(2) use of medicinal species;(3) technical innovations for use of biological resources and traditional farming and lifestyle practices;(4) traditional cultures and customary laws related to conservation and sustainable use of biological resources; and (5) traditional local marker products.TK faces a severe threat now, we need take a series of relevant measures to protect it. Especially, with the rapid development of the information technology, many countries in the world have set up their own traditional knowledge database as a effective measure to protection and management the digital traditional knowledge.The main research of this paper is set up the database for TK associated with biodiversity of in the ethnic area of China based on the studies of the traditional knowledge database at home and abroad, using the categories of TK of55ethnic minorities in China.The main results as follows:1, Based on the categories of TK in China, and the computer technology, put forward the design concept, constructing though and content of TK database.2, Keeping with actual demand of TK, adopting computer technology, web programming, multimedia technology and so on, provide the building programs of the TK database.3, Finished the design and construction of TK database, and the whole information system of TK, we can retrieval and query the TK data through it.4, Accomplishing the design of the client application requirements, it is almost consistent with the operation with browser for the application of TK database relay on browser. The design of the whole interface with Chinese characteristic and originality, and the whole layout is reasonable, simple and orderly.5, Established the background data acquisition system, we can insert the TK data into database through it, and digitizing the texts of TK. It is convenient to manage, store and preserve the traditional knowledge in the system.Using the SQL Server database as the back platform of this system and putting forward several countermeasures to insure the security of the database, it is effective to guarantee the integrality and valid of the data and to enhance the security of this system. I adopt ASP technology as front platform. This makes the need of the user become the core of the function of retrieval and makes the system convenient to use. The design of whole pages with ethnic characteristic, stressing the function, and increasing the practicability.TK database is the retrieval system included in5categories of traditional knowledge for the first time in China, it is the integration of traditional knowledge of55ethnic minorities, and rich the content of traditional knowledge. It makes TK appear in a way, which is more objective, systematic, repeatable, standardized and verifiable, thus promoting specialized study on TK, as well as its positive protection and appropriate development and utilization. And it sets up a successful example for building another more rigorous, more perfect TKDL in China in future.
