The Memories and Experiences of Qiao Nan(Wei Jun, Ming dynasty), A general record of Yue (Min Xu, Qing dynasty) and An Account of the Customs and Cultures in Yuexi (LuZuofan, Qing dynasty) are all note works of the Ming and Qing dynasties studying Guangxi. The three cover a wide range of subjects, mainly including:the Tusi system of the ancient Guangxi, the ethnical composition and economic situation in Guangxi during the Ming and Qing dynasties, and the customs and cultures of the Guangxi indigenous nationalities living in this period, such as the customs of diet, habitation, courtship, and marriage. The geographic change, climate and natural material products (animals, plants, and minerals, etc.) are also recorded in the works. Among the various subjects the works touch on, the record of the society, history, as well as customs and cultures of the Guangxi ethnical minorities in Ming and Qing are highly valued from the view of document.The following paper unfolds its study aiming at the three works above. On a basis of a comprehensive collation and annotation, it tries to make a deeper and further research and study, with the achievement already obtained in this area, to the history, geography, and customs of the Guangxi ethnical minorities living in Ming and Qing. The part of study carries out its analysis of the three works ranging from the lives of their authors, the versions, the idea and content, the value of them as document, to their deficiencies. By doing so, the paper is aimed to provide a wider and deeper insight into the value of the works; the part of revision makes its efforts in the edition, collation and annotation of the three works and is expected to restore them to their most original versions and facilitate the understanding and use of the works for readers.
