Comparative Studies On The Selection Mechanism In Humanities And Social Sciences Between The Mainland And Taiwan

The foundation of citation database is based on the reference data, and it can reveal the relationship between citing and cited articles. And now it is more and more influential in academic research. SCI.SSCI,A&HCI are the top3international citation databases. However, there are some restrictions, such as different language and cultural background in the use process in some areas. So some localization of citation databases are built up. Among them, the CSSCI in Mainland and TSSCI, THCI Core in Taiwan are comparability because of the same language and culture background.This study intends to sum up the general characters and characteristics during their localization process, thereby promots cross-strait academic development and communication.In this study, literature research method,case study method, literature metrology,comparative study,as well as comprehensive analysis are used in the related analysises. And induction,deduction,logical reasoning are also used in this study. Start from the conception distinction of the source journals and core journals, and then introduce the selection mechanism of SCI,SSCI and A&HCI. After that is the introduction of the selection mechanism of the citation database in the humanities and social sciences of the Mainland and Taiwan. This study compares the selection mechanism between the Mainland and Taiwan, taking CSSCI and TSSCI as example, by construction purpose,selection scope,selection purpose,selection index,the number of the source journals,judge committee structure,effectiveness and influence and so on. And summed up their characteristics and shortcomings. Also, in this study, I put in my perspectives about database function, the rationality of selection index journal classification and select scope and so on.The conclusion of this study can be generalized as following. The construction purpose of citation databases both in the mainland and Taiwan is for the services of academic research, and they select source journals using combined principles of quantity and quality. However, as the reason of the difference citation habits, in Taiwan, authors incline to cite foreign scholars research results, and cite Taiwan local research less, so the number of citing can't be the meaningful statistics, and because of this reason, TSSCI is more like a kind of subjective dimension list, and not the so-called citation database. Comparatively, CSSCI is more objective for the selection mechanism of the source journals.
