Along with the development of Internet technology and the expansion of network, IPV4 protocol would be no longer suitable for management and operation of the network. IPV6 as the updated version of internet protocol is sure to be selected to be alternative, due to its good performance on dealing with problems including address space shortages, network security, data safety, bandwidth bottleneck as well as mobile terminations. With those advantages, IPV6 is capable of supporting a variety of multimedia operations, and VOD (video on demand) is one of them. So far VOD has played an important roll in business, education, entertainment, etc, and it is more and more highlighted in campus website building. For one thing, any audio or video resources can be put on VOD system as long as is numeric; for another, VOD system could be highly interactive, so that it is welcomed by both teachers and students.VOD is now one of the most important parts of portals of colleges and universities, thanks to its obvious advantages. For those portals, VOD can be widely used in online teaching, information distribution, video playing and meanwhile, provide a platform for the students to communicate and to demonstrate learning results.Tianjin Zhongde Vocational College, one of the 100 model vocational colleges in China, is now endeavor to its digital college construction program by combining all systems including teaching system, researching system, managing system as well as convenient network. I take charge of the development of the VOD system in this program.Benefited from plenty of materials and existing research results, I successfully matched the most advanced VOD technical with the special demand of college portal and developed a VOD system based on IPV6. The system obtained positive feedback from both teachers and students, due to its characters of fast, stable and large information capacity.Firstly, the concept of VOD system is discussed by the paper, such as its composition, and development. Taking the total performance and cost into consideration, some crucial technology of the system are introduced, as well. After that, a brief introduction of network topology of Tianjin ZhongDe vocational college is given. The paper analyzed the requirement of VOD system for that college, and then discussed how to build up proper hardware and software system to implement the VOD system.At last, a VOD system in Vc.NET platform is designed with the technology of DirectShow. Proper components are created for data receiving and transmission, and the function of multi-broadcast is improved with patch stream controller algorithm.
