IPv4 IPv6 is a network for existing deficiencies developed. The mid-20th century, 90, IETF IPv6 protocol in the discussion, specifically defined in the IPv6 flow concept, the method by setting the flow label for the efficient handling of data packet provides a mechanism to enhance the support for real-time system.In recent years, more and more schools began to spread campus digitalization of the building, full use of digital media technologies and LAN bandwidth advantage, creating digital audio and video acquisition, production, publishing, learning, communication, characterized by campus video-on-demand site, successful classroom teaching extends to multimedia teaching and network teaching, construction, characteristic of the teaching resources from their library. In this paper, Network Information Center of Yunnan Art Institute as a research background, most of the hardware environment and conditions are from the school network to provide support and information center.This paper introduces the IPv6 advantages in multimedia applications, including IPv6 support real-time data transmission, improving transmission delay and jitter, improved multicast, error control and flow control, in addition to IPv6 and multimedia transmission of knowledge review.Then, this paper addresses the architecture of IPv6, ICMPv6 protocol, IPv6 unicast data communications, IPv6 routing protocols, IPv6 and IPv6 transition security technology and other important research, and the experimental IPv6 network and network access. On this basis, in order to build streaming media applications based on IPv6 platform.Finally, to obtain sufficient experimental platform based on the experience, build and explore, including WWW, VOD and other basic IPv6 applications, design and development of IPv6-based video on demand system of teaching, testing and use. One of the goals of this paper is to first establish experimental IPv6 network platform to enable IPv6 LAN computer access 6BONE, then the design and implementation of IPv6-based video on demand system of teaching.
