With the rapid development of computer technology, Geographic Information System (GIS) technology is constantly making progress, and it is used more and more widely. And the component technology has brought hitherto unknown opportunities to the development of geographic information system. Taking the Hebei Tourism Vocational College as an example, this paper designs and implements Campus Geographic Information System (CGIS) using the development pattern which is a combination of Visual Basic and MapObjects components.This paper describes in detail the geographical information system on the basis of the background, elaborates with emphasis in establishing the purpose and meaning of college and university campus geographic information system and analyzes the present research situation at home and abroad. And it also draws lessons from a lot of campus geographic information system researches; then after discussing adequately the digital image processing technology, database technology, shortest path algorithm, three-dimensional virtual technology and the key technology of GIS, also according to the Hebei Tourism Vocational College geographic information system to establish the background and user's demand for a detailed analysis, the paper establishes the basic functions of the system modules and finally proposed the Hebei Tourism Vocational College campus geographic information system construction idea and implementation. The system takes the Hebei Tourism Vocational College campus planning diagram as the background, making full use of the MapObjects provides spatial data analysis, process, display and other functions; in the Visual development language Basic platform based on the campus spatial information and the attribute information together, it preliminarily realizes spatial and attribute data query, display, mixed position functions and in the road network topology based on the implementation of the shortest path analysis function; meanwhile the use of VRML to establish virtual campus 3D scene and preliminary'implementation of 3D virtual campus roaming function come into effect. Finally, the paper shows the results demo of the preliminary realization of the Hebei Tourism Vocational College Campus Geographic Information System.In the last part of the paper, the author summarizes detailedly the main research work, its achievements and the still existing problems of the system in the establishment of the Hebei Tourism Vocational College campus geographic information system; and makes a further prospect towards the development direction henceforth.
