With the accelerated urbanization and transportation increasing, congestion phenomenon becomes more and more serious. The current public transportation system cannot access road information and traffic information timely to delivery scheduling system. Passengers who are waiting for the coming bus cannot get the current vehicle driving information.The dispatcher cannot schedule and dispatch without vehicle running data. Once there is a traffic congestion or traffic accident, it will bring inconvenience to passengers.In recent years, wireless sensor network,which has become a hot research topic, is widely used in industry, construction, home furnishing, transportation and other fields with low cost, small size and other characteristics, which has become a hot research in the field. The ZigBee technology as an important branch of wireless sensor networks, which is applied to control, detection and other fields with its close distance, low rate, low power consumption, low cost and other characteristics. The combination of wireless sensor network and ZigBee technology has more widely market application.This thesis describes an urban intelligent transportation system which is based on ZigBee technology. Through studying ZigBee protocol stack, intelligent transportation systematic host computer and computer software are designed.This research has completed a comprehensive set of public transportation platform for information collection, transmission, processing, information management, and built the ZigBee-based intelligent transportation monitoring software. The system can be timely and accurately send vehicle information and travel information to the dispatch center's server, Passengers and scheduling staffs could make reasonable scheduling arrangements based on the current line status and distribution, and achieve intelligent transportation.The hardware of the system includes the terminal nodes, routing nodes, coordinator nodes and server. The system sends the vchicle and traffic information to routing node by using the terminal nodes, and then data is submitted by the routing node.By this scheme, data will be eventually sent to the coordinator node. The coordinator nodes are responsible for the formation maintenance and network management.In order to realize monitoring vehicles, data is transferred between RS232 serial port and the dispatch center. The dispatch center is responsible for data storage and analysis. According to transferred vehicle and driving information, the dispatch arranges vehicle management and scheduling. This system manages public transport vehicles operating status effectively and improves vehicle management efficiency. The system focuses on studying the vehicle location technology, network topology, routing protocols, time synchronization, and makes improvement to the whole system.Experiment results shows that the system can be operated stably and efficiently, and the system hopefully provides reference data and potential value to the development of intelligent transportation system.
