Image intensifier, the core component of low-light level (LLL) night vision devices, has been widely applied in the military, criminal investigation, security protection, chemical industry, medical treatment, etc. Since the United States developed the I-generation LLL night vision system, the image intensifier has been improved though the seven generations of I, II, Ultraâ…¡,â…¢, High performanceâ…¢, Ultraâ…¢andâ…£. Because of foreign technology monopoly and its technical limitations, there is still a gap between the performance of China's image intensifiers and that of foreign countries. The Ill-generation tube of China is still in the laboratory, and its performance needs to be improved.Resolution, which represents the image sharpness, is one of the important indicators of LLL image intensifier. Study on this subject is to optimize the resolution model ofâ…¢-generation LLL image intensifiers, analysis of effects of various parameters for image tube resolution, and provide reference for the design ofâ…¢-generation LLL image intensifier.A solution for computing resolution of an image intensifier using Monte Carlo method and MATLAB is presented in this paper. The stimulated electronic from the photocathode is simulated by a set of random numbers. It takes parameters of 1 st proximity distance, MCP, 2nd proximity distance, etc., into consideration. The resolution can be got from the modulation transfer function (MTF) which is calculated by the electron distribution of the image surface. On the basis of the established resolution model ofâ…¢-generation LLL image intensifier, the paper analysis the impact of MCP surface reflection for the image tube resolution. The simulated images and data from MATLAB software is compared and analyzed. The optimal parameters of the MCP front and back surface are given in this article. |
