Nowadays, the industrialization of Internet of Things is growing rapidly. As one of the key technologies, wireless sensor network get more and more attention and application. Wireless Sensor Network (WSNs) is composed of a large number of sensor nodes, which are limited in computing, storage, communication capabilities and energy supply. Actually, energy consumption, communication distance and transmission delay has become constraints in the development of WSNs. Hierarchical routing, data fusion, periodic updates is integrated in clustering routing protocol, which can reduce packet numbers, improve energy efficiency, and extend the network life cycle. According to these, researching and designing a reasonable clustering routing protocol for WSNs has become one of main research topics.In this paper, there are three contributions. First, the typical clustering routing algorithms in WSNs are summarized, including LEACH, TEEN, PEGASIS and HEED. Combined to the advantages of Heterogeneous Wireless Sensor Networks (HWSNs), the research status of HWSNs protocols are analysized. Based on this, a new clustering routing protocol suitable for HWSNs composed of two types of nodes is proposed, which includes the communication protocol beween cluster-head and cluster-members, data fusion algorithm and routing recovery mechanism. The protocol considers path hops, residential energy and cluster-head load balancing in the cluster building, and distinguishes real-time data packets and periodic data packet in data fusing mechanism.Second, reference to the application needs of device control in intelligent building, a verification system composed of single-chip nodes and ARM nodes is built. IEEE802.11b protocol is used as the MAC layer protocol between ARM nodes and gateway, and IEEE802.15.4protocol is adopted within the cluster.Finally, with the help of PACKET Sniffer, the functions and performances of this clustering routing protocol are verified and analyzed. The test results show that the protocol designed in this paper can build clusteres, recover the link failture automatically, and cluster-heads can achieve data fusing and transmitting according to the feature of packets.
