With the high speed development of industry modernization, environment (especially water) pollution is a serious issue. The department of environmental protection has introduced real-time monitoring system for sources of pollution in order to throw away unfashionable ways by manual sampling and analyzing in fixed place and time so that achieve the aim of auto and real-time monitoring.The design of online monitoring terminal in this paper is to improve the quality of monitoring for water pollution by adopting a low power consumption but high performance ARM7 core which body is the LPC2210 processor of NXP and choosing the Embeded Configurable real-time Operating System (eCos) which has the features of configurability and open-source.In hardware section, I analyze the requirement of function and choosing for core chips. What's more, I devote a full discussion to the topic of data processing in the serial communication.In software section, I focus on solving the following issues: the selection of RTOS, the porting of eCos, the realizing of FAT16 file system on SD card, and the realizing of HJ/T212-2005 protocol. Then we have a clear understanding of the process and difficulties in the development of terminal software.When communicating, the terminal works in GPRS mode, with the features which have wide range coverage, real-time transmission, pay-as-you-use and "Always online". I optimize the GPRS module's fault tolerance in the practical application, so as to solve the loss of data, the delay of transmission, the crashing of module and other practical problems. So the terminal can endure a stable and reliable long-term operation in an unattended environment.With the principle of good scalability, robustness and maintainability, the design of the terminal adopts the Embeded Configurable real-time Operating System (eCos). This paper describes its characteristics and summary the steps of porting the eCos to Smart ARM2200 Development Board.In order to solve the problem of mass storage for collected data, this paper realizes the function of the FAT16 file system that based on SD card and gives a complete analysis of the principle of FAT file system and it's code, which provides an effective solution to the key technical problem of the shortening of life time which caused by real-time data storage.Meanwhile, this paper adopts the latest technology to the traditional field for industry monitoring and achieves the aim to the perfect combination of the ARM processor and the real-time operating system. What's more, the technology can be common used and referenced for the remote monitoring in industry applications.
