With the development of electronic technology and network, embedded system has infiltrated into various asepcts of social life. Embedded operationg system, as a great important component of an embedded system, has been becoming more and more important. eCos (embedded Configurable operating system) is an open source, royalty-free and distributed under the GPL license, embedd operating system. Compared with other royalty operating systems such as Vxworks, pSOS and uC/OS-II, eCos is not only flexible, full-featured, and strongly network supported, but also highly configurable, porting easy, greatly extensible, portable and compatible with third-party software. eCos has been highly improved by eCos fans. Developing embedded products with eCos is a hot research area of embedded operating system over the world.First, the start-up process of eCos is analysed, then based practical application of the codes, several chief components of eCos kernel are disscussed and detaily analysed, such as Interruption processing, Memory management, Synchronization phrase.After the basic framework of eCos kernel dicussed, a development environment for eCos system to develop eCos application is established.Second, Porting eCos system is the cornerstone of eCos system, the job is according to target board programme that bottom HAL(Hardware Abstraction Layer) porting code and certain driver codes supportting devices of target board, then configures, complices, links and borns an eCos Library file. The applications are developed with the Library file. This paper mainly introduced HAL operating principle, analysed the Porting eCos system procedure and the coding, testing of eCos drivers guidance, then descripted the procedure of Porting eCos system to MCF5235 from M68K family and the keypoints of coding eCos drivers supporting MCF5235's several devices, finally gave the results of realtime-ability test and some tests.The VoIP terminal with SIP functions and eCos OS, based on the MCF5235EVB board, has been successfully developed,the terminal was implemented wih Osip,eXosip,...
