Video monitoring is an important application field which is related to computer science and artificial intelligence. Like all other embedded products, embedded video monitoring system is broadly used in many important fields. Currently, embedded video monitoring intellectualization is in the process of research and exploration theoretically and practically. Embedded graphical user interface (GUI) is the key part of embedded devices. It completes the information exchange between users and embedded devices through slinky graphical interface. With the growing development in embedded system, the importance of GUI has promoted increasingly. But embedded devices are resource bounded and of specificity, the GUI on PC platform can not be completed copied.This thesis completes the whole design of embedded video monitoring system. First it discusses the common design schemes in embedded video monitoring system. According to actual need, it proposes a construction plan and gives a detailed description of the video collection and compression modules. Than it completes the construction of Linux operation system on the hardware platform and depicts the main application programs of the video monitoring system. This system has many advantages such as good stability and high efficiency.This thesis designs a set of GUI based on embedded Linux. First, it discusses the existing embedded GUI design theory and technology. Than it posed an independently developed and lightweight GUI scheme which overcomes some drawbacks like excessive user interfaces occupy embedded system resource, etc. It completes the design of Frame Buffer driver and input device driver and the bottom graphic engine implementation and encapsulation. It designs a set of Chinese and English dictionary according to practical application. Finally, it dose further development on the basis of the already designed GUI, a set of user interface system applied to embedded video monitoring system has been designed according to the actual use of embedded video monitoring system. This system is of high efficiency and portability and it occupies less resource and has slinky interface.
