With the continuous improvement of living standards, in particular the development of network technology and network bandwidth continues to increase, making the computer become an important tool in people's work and entertainment. Computer multimedia teaching in schools has become commonplace and in the modern distance education computers are well in the use. So, how to make better use of computer networks to learn becomes an important issue in the information age. Adaptive student's self-learning system is to help students to use the Internet for personalized learning.This paper analyzes the importance of the development of intelligent learning system, and summarized the development process and the latest results of intelligent learning system at home and abroad, both in-depth studies of the adaptive and personalized learning theories. The system can determine the difficulty of learning content and test questions by Item Response Theory. Based on students' learning and test results, the system can constantly revise the difficulty. So the system can constantly adjust the learning content and test questions. Students can gradually increase the difficulty of learning content and promote their own progress.The system can organize and present learning contents based on student's general characteristics. And it can adjust the learning content based on feedback, which makes it have a certain adaptability and intelligence. This can provide good technical support to distance education teaching and network teaching in ordinary schools.
