Piping progress monitoring is one of the most critical content of the progress of construction management for marine engineering equipment. In the past 10 years, the completion and hand-held orders of marine engineering equipment in China had been growing in a rapid pace. At the end of 2008, the three major indexes of our construction of marine equipment has gone far beyond that in Japan, ranking second in the world.However, the overall level of progress monitoring for the construction of marine engineering equipment, including the level of piping progress monitoring, is far behind the advanced countries such as Japan and South Korea, which greatly extended the construction of marine equipment cycle.The paper has researched on the piping progress monitoring deeply and systematically, in order to ensure progress of the piping schedule going smoothly and also to improve the level of the construction progress of the marine equipment companies. The paper firstly analyzed the status and existed problems of the piping progress monitoring system, secondly it explored the the mode selection of the piping progress monitoring and the advantages of KPI mode. At the same time it studied the parameters and the principle of the piping progress monitoring, and then the paper made the requirements analysis and logical design on the system, and also it describes process and business process of the the piping progress, and made the data flow analysis and database design on the system, combined with the status of piping progress monitoring of a large domestic marine equipment manufacturing company. Finally, the paper described an important part of the physical design of the target system, mainly including the design principles, system operation environment, system architecture, database design and system interface development, etc.Thus it completed the analysis and design of the piping progress monitoring system based on KPI.This paper is intended for a domestic manufacturer of large marine equipment to monitor the pipeing progress status, which is based on a variety of monitor modes, to explore why and how the KPI mode reflects the principle of piping progress monitoring.Finally, we can get the conclusion throuth the study on marine equipment manufacturing company that KPI model can indeed solve the piping progress monitoring problems. It can provide an effective implemental theoretical support for the system.
