To meet the urgent needs of domestic AEC applications, a self-developed piping design software named as CADPLANT is implemented. CADPLANT system is based on AutoCAD R12 platform, consisting of several modules: plant soft model, DBMS, graphics library, ISO drawing generation, plan-section drawing generation, material take-off, hidden-line removal and rendering etc.. Among these modules, plant soft model is the kernel of system.Dissertation work mainly concentrates on construction of plant soft model and study of key algorithm for plant walkthrough. Following are the work being done :1. " Five Points Computing Method " is presented to solve the location problem of new pipe when several routepipe status act at same time.2. Intelligent, interactive routepipe system is developed based on engineering and function demands.3. " Virtual Division Method " is proposed to optimize the design of complexed pipe cutting analysis for fitting insertion.4. Many important modules of fitting insertion sub-system are developed including: getting key points of composed items, cutting pipe, creating smart line of composed items, processing boss, setting weld line flag, matching flange and gasket etc..5. According to the engineering standards, a complete collision check subsystem is implemented.6. A new feature angle criterion and local greedy triangulation method are presented to simplify vertexes of smooth polyhedral model.7. Based on feature edge identification, a practical simplification method is proposed for closed and non-smooth polyhedral model.The last two contents are pre-research work for designing plant walkthrough system.
