Millimeter-wave One-dimensional Phased Array T / R Module Developed

Active Phased Array Radar has been the leading technology in the fields of radars. The Active phased-array antenna has many T/R modules which have the same circuit. Each T/R module can amplify the weak signal from the antenna and amplify the input RF signal which will be transmitted to the antenna.The T/R module can tune the amplitude and phase of the RF signal both in the accepting state and transmitting state.For the desire of certain one-dimension phased array radar, an ultra-thin and high-power T/R module is developed. In this dissertation, the principle of millimeter-wave T/R module is presented. The mechanism of the millimeter-wave ultra-thin TR module for the scheme of the intermediate frequency phased array radar is introduced in detail, and corresponding theory analysis and simulated design are performed.The ultra-thin T/R module design includes the low profile waveguide -to-microstrip transition, the thin-film sub-harmonic mixer, the thin-film ceramics filter, the microstrip mix integrated circuit technique, and the high-speed large current pulse voltage modulation technique. The harmonic balance software (Agilent ADS) and the three-dimensional full-wave simulated software (Ansoft HFSS) are combined to simulate and optimize the crucial circuits of the waveguide-to-microstrip transition, the sub- harmonic mixer, and microstrip filter. The crucial circuits are tested to be sure to meet the requirement.The T/R module is tested. The thickness of the TR module is 4.6mm, the noise figure is 5dB and the transmitting power is 30dBm. Those meet the requirement. A conclusion about all the previous research is brought up at last with some ways to improve the work.
