Network topology is the foundation of various research work on network, such as network construction, network maintenance, network modeling, network security, protocol designing and so on, which plays an important role. With network scale expanding constantly, network technologies and applications appearing endlessly, network topology is under the continuous change. Technologies on network topology measurement can provide real-time network topology for people. This thesis focuses on technologies on IP layer topology measurement.First, we introduce the theory of traditional method based on traceroute and method based on the IGMP message. Existing two probing ways based on IGMP message bring about different degree of loss of topological information. This thesis puts forward the improved method based on IGMP message, which can obtain more information on topology.Subsequently, we conduct experiment of topology measurement with the improved method. With the purpose of measuring network topology of the special area, we propose a method based on IGMP message which can be used to measure network topology of specific scope when we conduct the recursive probe.Traditional method based on traceroute can not gain the paths which do not often forward packets and can be obtained with the method based on the IGMP message.Considering the respective characteristics of the traditional method and the method based on the IGMP message, we put forward the method combining the two methods, which can provide more complete topology.
