Since the very beginning when DM (direct mail advertising) advertisement appeared in China, it grows rapidly and soon formed a considerable amount of volume. In today's context, the DM advertisement can beseen almost everywhere. Nevertheless, the growth of this new form of ad can only be described as"tough", unlike mainstream media who has developed channels and system, the DM advertisement is still fighting the way among those mainstream media. The market place for them is still in its very early stage, without too much pattern or rulers, some even view this market as an sub-part of circumvent. Although DM advertisement still has a long way to become public mainstream media, but undoubtedly, it's has great value and wide range of applications.In order to illustrate the key elements of DM advertisement from a sustainable point of view, this article made a deep analyze of DM advertisement, including front-end market research, the design of DM ad, the production phase of the advertisement, ad execution and finally the evaluation phase. The article listed a few problems within today's DM ad industry and the article try to view those problems in the lens of design, ad language and social elements. The article demonstrated how to maximize the DM advertisement's value in sustainable design area and distinguish it's own statue by using front- end research, production and evaluation system. Sustainable design is not just an empty slogan, it is something we as human being need to take seriously care of and once we really achieved the sustainable design, the DM advertisement will become one of our mainstream media.
