It estimates that the potential ocean fish production is over 30 million a year and this is one of the most important food resource for human being, at the meantime fishing boat is the main tool to develop ocean fish resource, and the trawlers are one of the main types of fishing boats. Since the trawler's small size and narrow space, too many equipment on the deck, complex operation, high stability requirement, so the matter of the general layer design seems more prominent.This paper developed the 3D parametric arrangement system for trawlers based on the CATIA, it uses the 3D way to make layout design, compared with traditional 2D plan design, it is more accurate, more efficient and more visualized. In addition, it can use clash detection and human engineering technology to verify and improve the arrangement of the final plan. Besides, this system brings in the parametric design concept, make the design rapid, accurate and easy to modify. It greatly improves the efficiency of the layout design.CATIA is a major of 3D CAD/CAM/CAE design software developed by Dassault Corporation from France. By using the provided second development interface,this paper develop the module of GSM, Part Design, Assembly Design and acknowledge engineering and expert system to make a program dedicated to solve the problems of fishing trawlers layout design. Finally, we use the man-machine engineering module which provided by the CATIA to make the arrangement more reasonable, accurate and comfortable.This paper use ES principle to develop arrangement design system for fishing trawlers. It collects several small fishing trawlers layout design information and then stored in SQL Server database to build knowledge base, and then use the VB.NET program to realize database access and get the final layout. The 3D parametric arrangement system for trawlers includes four aspects as follows:3D parametric ship equipment library:Through the research of the knowledge engineering module of the CATIA, we establish parametric equipment models and design tables. The SQL Server 2005 database is used to store equipment models and related information. The prototype system which is created by the VB.NET, can manage all sorts of equipments, and even can provide the accurate type of equipment model which the user required.The tank divided and stability checking system for fishing trawlers:Adopting the principle of expert system, the user can select one similar type of parent ships from knowledge base, system will quickly give a preliminary subdivision scheme, and the system can automatically divide the tank according to the final plan. This system can also check the volume of tank and the loading stability automatically.The superstructure division and cabin equipment arrangement system for fishing trawlers: It can get the preliminary plan of arrangement, according to the parent ship information and also can modify the plane according to actual needs easily. The most important is that all the equipment are use the assembly method to locate, if user want to modify the plan,the equipment will automatically change the position, there is no need to manually adjust the position of equipments.The application of man-machine engineering technology in general arrangement fishing trawlers:After finishing 3D arrangement, we use man-machine technology to check and improve the final plan. Including, the Clash Detection and Manikin Workspace Analysis of cabin arrangement, the verification of driving sight.
