Environmental monitoring use physical, chemical and biological techniques, quantit ative and comprehensive analysis the pollutants and their components of the system, to explore the variation of environmental quality. The Main objective of this project is to build wireless sensor network for environmental monitoring based on ZIGBEE prot ocol.The first chapter briefly analyzes the advantages and disadvantages of the existing environmental monitoring method, reviewed the history of development of wireless se nsor network and its development dynamics, structure and characteristics. Then, briefly introduces the features and application of ZIGBEE protocol. Compared with other wir eless protocols, ZIGBEE is more suitable for environmental monitoring network, which is also the reason we select it as the networking protocol.Chapter two designed the overall architecture of wireless sensor network platform. Start from the Environmental monitoring system's needs, through selection, analyze, finally determine the scheme of this network, which using MSP430 micro-processing module, SZ05 module, SHT11 and HpO3 sensor chip to build wireless networks. At the end, design the network data transfer and control frame format.Chapter three is to build a wireless sensor network hardware platform. Its first de sign the overall structure of the sink node and sensor node hardware. Then analyze an d design the main node modules, including the design of micro-processing module, S HT11 temperature and humidity sensor design, HP03 pressure sensor, SZ05 network d esign and expansion module interface design and so on. This hardware platform desig ned with system expansion, so they can easily be upgraded without hardware changes. Chapter four is the wireless environmental monitoring network software design. In cluding front-end information networks software design and PC software design. Front-end information networks software design mainly include the sink node and sensor no de design, PC software mainly include the selection of development platform and data base, system architecture design and the main body module design.Chapter Five is primarily for network testing and system performance analysis. By measuring temperature and humidity characteristics of the system through network testing, compare to the initial design requirements, we can see that the system basically meet the de-sign requirements. Can be convenient to achieve multi-parameter measurement in a stable data transmission environment in the ZIGBEE network.This ZIGBEE monitoring Network support multi-node, multi-parameter data collection, data transmission automatic. It is also can temporary setting up Network. Its flexibility allows network nodes to be adding, changing, and removing in position easily. Because of the needs of complex Equipment, large infrastructure, and a lot of cablingmakes the existing measure of Environmental monitoring inability for unexpected events, and difficult to move node's position. As a new approach for Environmental Monitoring this ZIGBEE network can offset these insufficiencies.
