Disasters closely connected to the well-being of human kind. Disasters are inevitable in every nation and all social system. Therefore, disaster coverage is always the focus and hot spot of society and an important reporting subject in news production. In the 21st century, natural and man-made calamities occur frequently worldwide, posing great challenges to human kind and mass media. The global villagers also realize the necessity and urgency of disaster prevention. However, how should journalist report those disasters to satisfy information receivers' requirement, correctly guide public opinion and effectively advertise China?This paper applies the methodology of case study and comparative analysis from journalistic language-using perspective. The thesis will compare and contrast language feature and structure of disaster coverage in Chinese and English media and explore the reason. This paper aims to compare the pros and cons of various Chinese and English disaster reportage styles, in a bid to make up for each other's deficiencies, to provide some suggestions and inspiration for the development and maturity of reportage style and language for Chinese disaster reportage. The thesis in the end hopes to promote an ideal reporting mode characterized by professionalism and journalistic pragmatism for China.
