WDM-PON has been regarded as an ultimate next-generation solution due to its large transmission capacity, network security, and data transparency. And RSOA has been considered as one of the most interesting schemes of colorless ONU since it can amplify and modulate the signals simultaneously. Meanwhile, advanced modulation formats have been introduced to WDM-PON because of its obvious transmission advantages. In this dissertation, the remodulation technology based on RSOA and its applications in high-speed WDM-PON have been investigated. The main contents are as follows:The gain and spectrum characteristics have been studied. The influence of launch power and injection current on the gain performances of RSOA has been closely discussed. Moreover, the modulation characteristic has been verified by numerical simulations. Then, the generation and reception of each advanced modulation format are introduced, and their characteristics are also analyzed by the optical spectrum and time domain figures. And, a high-speed (40Gbits/s) WDM-PON system based on RSOA has been built and the four advanced modulation formats have adopted as downstream signal to study the transmission performances, especially on respects of launch power and dispersion. Finally, the two colorless ONU schemes based on RSOA and AM have been compared and analyzed.Transmission performances of the system with RSOA modulating upstream signal and 40Gbits/s DPSK and 40Gbits/s FSK as downstream signal, respectively, have been experimentally studied. Results verified the feasibility of DPSK and FSK transmitting in the high-speed PON based on RSOA.
