Strategy Study Of Improving China Older People's Media Literacy On Aging Society

Currently, two trends are irreversible. On one hand, China is striding towards an aging society; the other hand, traditional media and new media are showing a tendency to accelerative integration with the rapid development of information network technology. New media will play an important role in older people's life, and bring ever-increasing conveniences, so improving their media literacy is the key and paid to exert new media's advantages and function. The investigation of older people's media literacy in Shanghai and Harbin shows that the elderly present a special intimacy and high dependence on traditional media. The utilization of traditional media has a ratio of 90.4% accounting all investigated people, and the choice of new media is only 9.6%, which reveals the situation of new media application in older people group. Most of older people cannot continuously enjoy the convenience brought by new media technologies, so improving new media literacy of older people groups shoulder heavy responsibility and also has a huge operative space.Based on depth analysis of traditional and new media literacy of older people, and advanced experiences at home and abroad, we try to explore the test zone for promoting older people's media literacy. The test zone is under the auspices of government and is separated various units as community or street. Different methods will be used, like as propaganda and training, practical exercises, communication and discussion, etc. With sponsor of enterprise, social organization, charity organization and individual, it will establish the public fund to achieve healthy development and guarantee the improvement of media literacy of older people. So the test zone is a non-governmental and non-profit organization. According to the different characteristics of each urban development, firstly we set up the pilot point of test zone in Shanghai. In zone, education model and system has been well-designed, which fully play the exemplary role and also will be promoted and extended. Construction of test zone for improving older people's media literacy will accelerate older people to enhance their literacy, comprehensively know new media's advantages and conveniences, and increase their enthusiasm, initiative and creativity involved social activities and affairs.
