With digital relay protection and fault recorder widely used in the power systemand communication network of the power system developed, the Power Grid FaultInformation System was developed rapidly in the field of the grid secondaryequipments. It collects fault information from the relay protections and fault recordersfor fault analysis and data mining. The system can provide support for accidentanalysis and judgment for the professionals for the secondary equipments. It canmonitor the running status of the secondary equipments and improve the ability tomaintain the equipments, ensure the stable working of the equipments. This is asystem working in complex environment for the professionals, with a wide variety ofsecondary equipments communication interfaces and a large amount of information. Itrequires high reliability and stability.Effective software testing is an important means to improve software quality.Software testing strategy is the program of actions for the entire software testingprocess. We need to accurately address risks in the project and carry out targetedtesting activities in all stages of the software development life cycles, that caneffectively reduce the defects in the development process and the final product. Itcan cut down the costs of development, testing, construction and maintenance. Themajor research objective of this paper is what kind of test strategy will be used in thetesting process of the grid fault information system.This paper analyzes the advantages and disadvantages of the various softwarequality models. V-model with a global view, it is dividing the test process into fourstages, corresponding to the development process. By this model, we can see theentire project processes and the sequential relationship of the development and testing,that will result in the delay of the testing process and we can't effectively guaranteethe conduct of the testing process. W-model adds resuming and testing in all phases ofdevelopment. This is conducive to synchronization testing of the development phase and early detection of problems for avoiding found fatal defect until the final stage.H-model and X-model make effective discussion in the specific developmentprocesses. Pre-test model focuses on every testing of every artifact, through theclosing integration of testing and development. It can verify the design andimplementation of the system and effectively prevent the system from the deviationwith flexible approach.This paper discusses the general testing strategies for every stage of requirementsanalysis, software design, unit testing, integration testing, system testing, acceptancetesting in the software develop life cycle. The Grid Fault Information System which isa quasi-real-time information system, quickly and effective transfer of faultinformation and the compatibility of the various models of fault monitoringequipment is the most important feature, which determines the acquisition subsystemand communication subsystem is the core of the system. Data platform is thefoundation of the entire system. Advanced application modules and human-machineinterface provide maximum value.This paper develops a testing method which is a code coverage-based of blackbox testing method. The method is a blend of black-box testing technologies andcode-coverage metrics of white-box testing technologies. It is a iterative process oftest case designing, execution and code coverage analysis. It resulted in thecompleteness of the test coverage. This method collaborated with test case designstrategies can make the testing process and results visualization and improve thequality of the communication subsystem and the acquisition subsystem of the relayprotection and fault recording as the core of the Fault Information System. That canimprove the stability and reliability of the system.This paper develops a group of testing strategies for the Fault Information Systemthrough the analysis with the characteristics of the Power Grid Fault InformationSystem and the research on the testing strategies in all phases of the softwaredevelopment life cycle. The code coverage-based black box testing strategy as acomponent of that can visualize the measure of test results. While applying thesestrategies in test process of the system, that can effectively guide the testing activitiesand improve the efficiency of the testing, reduce the defects in the release, eliminatethe major risks in the system and improve the reliability of the system and reduce thecosts of on-site construction.
