The PCF, which has attracted a lot of attention during recent years, is a novel opticalfiber with photonic crystal structure. There are many novel optical properties about PCF,such as endless single mode, low loss, flexible chromatic dispersion, high non-linear andhigh birefringence. There are also many applications about PCF, such as super-high powerPCF laser, super-wide continuous spectrum, frequency converter, optical sensor and so on.In the paper, PCF with near zero and flatten dispersion property at C, L and S bands areseparately studied and designed. The paper introduces the concept of PCF and its classification method, which isnormally regarded as index-guiding PCF and bandgap PCF. The PCF's optical propertiesand its fabrication methods are also proposed.According to PCF's theories and our lab's experiences with PCF, the paper studiesthe PCF's chromatic dispersion theory and its applications in the fields of near zero flattendispersion and large negative dispersion. The paper studies the PCF's commonly used calculation methods. It focuses on themethod of multipole theory and detailedly describes the simulation procedure of theCUDOS, which is a suit of software basing on the multipole method. Then the papersimulates and analyzes PCF's chromatic dispersion property using CUDOS.The paper mainly studies the method how to design PCF with near zero and flattendispersion property at communication bands. It detailedly analyses the design theory anddesign procedure. Basing on the multipole method, the simulation only changes thediameter of air holes in the second and the third layers to adjust the dispersion, while thediameter of innermost air holes are set to a smaller parameter. By increasing the numberof air hole layers, the PCF's confinement loss can be decreased, while having littleinfluence on the previous designed PCF. The PCF with near zero and flatten dispersionproperty at C, L and S bands are successfully designed by this method. Finally the paper analysis the advantages and disadvantages of the work for a summary.
