Comparing to traditional optical fibers,photonic crystal fiber as a new type of optical fiber has many strange characteristics.In this paper,the dispersion compensation has been investigated.The dispersion,dispersion slope,Kappa,non- linear coefficient and confinement loss are analyzed by using multipole method. The main works of this dissertation are as follows.First of all,it has introduced and contrasted several methods,which are used to simulate and calculate the model field characteristics of PCF. In this paper ,we mainly introduces the multipole method which is used to analyze the PCF.Secondly,the dispersion compensation theory are analyzed.By using multipole method,the dispersion compensation in hexagonal structure is analyzed.We analyze the single cladding fibers and two kind of another photonic crystal fibers by changing the air hole size of the first cladding and the third cladding.Compare to traditional dispersiom compensation fibers, there are huge potential in dispersion compensation of PCF.Thirdly, the dispersion compensation property in octagonal photonic crystal fibers is stimulated with multipole method in this dissertation ,and also analyze the non-linear coefficient and confinement loss.It is found that the dispersion and the dispersion slope parameter of PCF can be designed neatly by changing the air hole size and the pitch in PCF cladding .And we found that the larger negative dispersion is,the larger non-linear coefficient is.Finally,we compare photonic crystal fiber of hexagonl structure with that of octagonal structure,both of which have the same structure parameters.It is found the octagonal structure can easily abtain large negative dispersion,low non-linear coefficient and low confinement loss.And we desigine a new type of octagonal dispersion compensation PCF,this kind of octagonal structure photonic crystal fiber can achieve low non-linear coefficient and perfect broad band dispersion compensation.
