Human knew the objective things in nature and described the things with quantitative concept. So they can gradually master the innate character of objective things in nature, and reveal the laws of nature. That is what measurement means. With the development of technology, the measurement environment is more complex, the requirements of precision on the measurement are getting higher and higher. So measurement methods are required to make improvements to adapt to the new situations and new requirements.Under this circumstance, this paper based on the actual measurement environment and demands, combines the characteristics of computer vision and video measurement methods, which is one of non-contact measurement methods, proposing the non-contact video measurement method. The main contributions are as follows:Firstly, this paper presents the research background, the research significance, the research of image measurement technology and the development of machine vision around the world. The basic theories and methods in this paper are the camera imaging model, image preprocessing technology and image interpolation.Secondly, a new video measurement through orthophotos is proposed based on the actual measurement requirements, and illustrates the necessity of the method by experiments. This paper describes the theories and principles of the orthophotos and shows the effectiveness and the stability of this method.Finally, this paper briefly introduces the design and implementation of video measurement software. The design and the result of this software based on the specification and the design requirements is given in this paper, especially introduces the design and implement of the key parts of the software and shows the result.
