Software quality has been grown into a strategic issue gradually, and it is difficult to control software quality; in addition, software crisis still have negative influence on most of companies. Right now software defect became a focus and measurement is an important approach to do software quality assurance (SQA) for an organization.PSM is a software measurement model used by lots of organizations, which is driven by information. Under the framework of software quality assurance and making use of PSM, measuring software can be significative and valuable for organizations.Frist of all, this dissertation introduces the concept of software defect, analyzes the origin of software defect and summarizes the defect classes. After that, the dissertation provides a detailed description about PSM. Aiming at resolving the problems that most of organizations just pay their attentions on tracking and correcting defects and are in lack of defect measurement and implement, the model PSM4SD (PSM for Software Defect) is propounded, which includes two sub-models MIM4SD and MPM4SD. Then, a large number of descriptions focus on explaining the model, including software quality assurance objective, measurement play, executing measurememt and quality evaluation.Finally, this dissertation presents many useful measurenent indexes, such as defects number, DD,defects injection rate,defects removal rate, MTTF, PTR, Pateto etc. and analyzes indicator generation, expatiates on the origin of defect data and design a software defect reporting template. Moreover, according to indicators for data analysis, the defect prediction is applied in the field of software defect measurement based on Gray-Prediction.
