As the improvement of human's living standards, more and more people use car as personal transports. Subsequently, traffic congestion, chaos and accidents occur frequently. But it is found that these unfavorable conditions can be avoided. At a time of a road section, vehicles appear "cluster" usually. So a kind of real-time monitoring system is hoped, which can monitor the status of each road section of the city timely and make right judgments, and then send the results to drivers of vehicles on the road in time for their judgments and determining vehicles routes. This paper is in the application background above, a kind of real-time monitoring system for road and traffic conditions is designed. Based on wireless sensor networks, this system includes following several functions: monitoring road conditions and collecting data of vehicles passing between each sensor node; data optimization fusion; uploading data to control instruments; data optimum process and results display graphically at backstage. The schemes of hardware design and the driver program of each node is mainly discussed in this paper. AMR sensor is mainly in chip HMC1021 basis, using the changing of magnetic field of the earth shocked by cars cause output voltage changes,?considering the "mutual cooperation" relationship between each node.?In this system platform, a temperature and humidity sensor is accessed. By this temperature and humidity sensor, the icy conditions and anti-sliding ability of road could be judged simple. It can be seen that this traffic monitoring real-time system provides data sources for reasonable allocation of road traffic resources, ensure finite traffic resources optimization usage, either in reducing road congestion and related traffic accidents etc, or in saving time and guarantee drivers'and passengers'property and safety.
