With the continuous enlargement of the network scale and the continuous enhancement of the network bandwidth,10 Gigabit techniques is gradually growing up to be applicated in large scale. The whole bandwidth flat of the network is beginning to move down.10 Gigabit is moved from backbone level down to gathering level, at the same time, Gigabit is transfered to accessing level from gathering level. The all-Gigabit-port switch S2970 that introduced in this thesis is designed to satisfy the request of network development. It integrate 24 Tri-Speed ports, the port constitution of the high definition not only satisfy the need of increasingly of the network load, but also lower the average devotion on the each port. It also provided 3 Hyper.GStack ports, used to uplink to backbone router. S2970 can be used to link high-speed server and high-speed work station, carrying out Gigabit to desk. And it can be applied as gathering switch in large-scale network.In this thesis, we'd like to mainly discuss the design and realization of the software system on the switch, including the software development platform, Switch Support Package (SSP) and Prestera Support Package (PSS). We also deeply analyse SSP module and design it, including drivers of management module,driver of packet processor and support to VLAN,Multicast and STP protocol. Finally, part of the test result about the switch are presented.
