Mould quotation is the key for the mould manufacturers to get the clients'orders and affects their economic benefits directly. Traditional quotation methods, such as empirical estimation method, decomposition summary method, have been gradually unable to satisfy market competition and customer needs on account of lack of data collection and too much dependence on quoters'experience. In addition, there is no detailed design of the mould when making mould quotation, only a rough design. How to use less information to make a fast and accurate quotation is another difficult problem in mould quotation. Therefore, it has become very important to develop a scientific and rational method to costing the moulds and provide fast and accurate quotations for moulds.This paper focused on progressive die, firstly analyzes its cost structure and impact factors, and then considering mould quotation methods at home and abroad, put forward two quotation methods for progressive die: quick quotation based on concept design and quick quotation based on case-based reasoning. The former is based on three-dimensional strip, first analyses and made detailed calculations for strips'process feature information and geometry information, and then made concept design for mould base, punch and die, and then provide hole table and calculation tools to calculate wire cutting length, which provide as a reference for quick quotation. To make full use of the historical quotation data, this paper studied how to describe quotation cases and presented a solution method based on moulds characteristic attributes, and then established a data base for quotation cases to sort then out. Finally the quick quotation system provided an easily-configurated quotation template which can adapt to the need of different regions and different enterprises, greatly improving the system popularity.Based on the studies above, a quick quotation system for progressive die has been developed in Siemens NX based on the Microsoft Visual Studio platform with Excel as the quoting database. The system could reduce the workload of the engineers, improve the speed of mould quotation and make the quotation more accurate and scientific. It has certain useful and practical value for other types of mould quotation systems.
