Aiming to improve the lag-behind coal-mining technology and reduce the frequent occurrence of safety incidences to the minimum, this thesis made an analyzing research for the domestic downhole security technology and devices as well as those used overseas. Therefore, the reach target is fixed on structuring the mining personnel positioning system by using the networks of wireless sensor. At the same time, this thesis chose Zigbee as the technical basis of this research, because this wireless communication technology is applicable for the downhole communication environment and positioning.This thesis is done through analyzing the mechanism and performance of positioning algorithm for wireless sensor network nodes, with the understanding of downhole positioning environment, illustrating the advantages of range-free localization algorithm in this situation. Through the studies and improvement of the existed algorithm, this theis presented a hot cluster centred scheme(HCCS) which is based on Zigbee. This algorithm is a distributed range-free localization algorithm prescribed according to the received signal strength indicator (RSSI). Being highly independent to hardware and highly accurate in performance, yet less complex in calculation, this algorithm objectively analyzed and proved the advantages of HCCS by a series of simulation result.This thesis finally chose the CC2430/CC2431 chip from the Ti Company as the core to establish the positioning system, according to the analysis of existed positioning schemes offered by major manufactures. Through analyzing the Zigbee protocol and the hardware structure of CC2430/CC2431, this thesis designed the beacon nodes, mobile nodes and coordinator nodes in the positioning system, and their respective system software, realizing the construction of personnel positioning networks based on Zigbee. In addition, through the analysis of evaluating indicator for node-distribution, as well as the combination of node-coverage model and the theory of energy consumption, this thesis provided the user with the principles of node-distribution in the mining personnel positioning system which is based on Zigbee.
