It is reliable and nondestructive to use machine vision and digital image processing technology. The digital signal processors and technology are powerful on image processing. In the paper, the DSP technology was brought into liquid level detecting for a higher speed and to achieve a level of performance that supports online inspection.A new liquid-level detection approach based on DSP technology is developed based on the method of liquid-level detection and the structure of detection system. On the platform of TMS320C6455DSK, a DSP-based liquid level detection system was developed.A refined image processing algorithm used on PC was transplanted into use on the DSK platform. Considering its working conditions, a software was developed working in combined mode of sequence and interruption. While in the process of software development, the principle of software engineering was followed by debugging while optimizing.The effect of the presence of foam on the surface of liquid was analyzed in X-ray image., the ill effects, caused by the thin foam on the liquid surface, were eliminated by a median filter. Various methods of edge detection were applied to process the X-ray images and a comparison was carried out in the research. Actual measurements of liquid level was computed by means of the pixel distance ration in X-ray images, which is of better operational effects that deducing actual measurements.
