| This thesis mainly focuses on war metaphors in sport news, in the perspective of cognitive linguistics, stylistics and sociolinguistics.The author. on the bases of relative materials and research findings of predecessors, makes a deep analysis on the general application of war metaphors in sport news, and in order to comprehend the great significance of war metaphors in sport news, pays attention to other metaphors as well. Metaphors of different kinds have different functions and most metaphors can display several functions at the same time. The thesis studies the functions of war metaphors by putting them into the big frame of sport news and classifies them into the following types:rhetorical function, stylistic function, coherence function and cognitive function. Through the classification of war metaphors, the author obtains the significance and necessity of them in news writing and news propaganda. Meanwhile, the author also classifies war metaphors according to frames and frame elements.The interpretation and classification, as well as the functions of war metaphors make another problem obvious, that is, why war metaphors are widely used in sport news.There exits some complicated and particular reasons behind every language phenomenon.As for war metaphors, the main reasons are as follows:aesthet-ic effect, cognitive reasons, culture psychology and social politics, so on and so forth.The interaction among these reasons makes the rapid increasing of war metaphors and it has both advantage and disadvantage. In the last part. the author makes an reasonable analysis on the existence of the large amount of war metaphors and reveals their disadvantage, in the hope of discussing the rationality of application of war metaphors in sport news in theory. |
