Metaphor is not just a rhetorical device, but also a cognitive tool and way of thinking for humans. As the "eyes" and "window" of news, the titles of broadcasting news serve as a summary and expressive role of information,an important component of news language, and a large quantity of metaphors are being used in the activities of media dissemination. In view of this, titles of those news which received China News Award are chosen as the objects of research in this paper, and their information, comments and titles are used as linguistic data. There are 1889 prize-winning broadcasting TV news in total,1420 notices, comments and specials in the 26th China News Award, among which there are 279 of them have titles of metaphors. The method that combines quantitative and qualitative approaches is used in this paper, together with the metaphor theoretical framework proposed by Lakoff and Johnson, and three dimensions which are spatial metaphor, ontological metaphor and structural metaphor.The"up-down" metaphors in spatial metaphors;the "container" and "human body" metaphors in ontological metaphors;the "war","journey","colorific" and cultural metaphors in structural metaphors are used for taxonomic description.Cognitive function analysis of the metaphors in titles from the angles of social culture, substances of human beings and conscious experiences, exploring the cognitive foundation and functions of metaphors in titles.Analysis and summary showed that these metaphor titles have functions of cognitive consensus, cognitive understanding, strengthening communication purposes, and reducing the audio-visual load of the.audience.Hopefully the multi-angle and interdisciplinary study of the metaphors in titles may provide beneficial references to the theoretical study, production and editing of the titles of broadcasting news.
