Image fusion is a new research field of image processing. The main purpose of image fusion is to make the best use of redundant information and complementary information which are included in fused image to get relatively ideal effect, thus making it more suitable for visual perception and computer processing.This paper first analyzes the classification of image fusion and the fundamental criterion of image registration. And then are the applying and choosing of the algorithms of image fusion which are respectively based on spatial domain and transforming domain. Finally is the discussion of the choice of the best wavelet function through experiments. The key point of this paper mainly does some improvement and supplement to the fusion rules of the existing multi-focus image, medical image and image of the infrared and the visible light which are based on wavelet transformation, so as to solve some existing weaknesses of fusion algorithms that are used in the process of digital image fusion.As for multi-focus image fusion, this paper puts forward two improved algorithms. The first improved algorithm is based on the edge of wavelet image fusion algorithm. The second improved algorithm is based on the block and the summation of window coefficient of wavelet image fusion algorithm. As for medical image fusion, this paper puts forward a fusion algorithm based on the window coefficient sequencing and two images'coefficients that have to attend operation of wavelet image. As for image fusion of the infrared and the visible light, this paper puts forward a fusion algorithm which is based on center coefficient of local area and the second-largest coefficients of wavelet image. Experimental results show that, according to different fusion purposes, the fusion effects of the proposed fusion algorithm are indeed superior to the average fusion methods. The fused image contains more useful original image information and eliminates as much useless image information as possible. The research on how to use wavelet transformation image fusion provides a good method and approach, it also broadens and enriches the application of wavelet transform in image processing.
