Research And Development Of Performance Monitoring System For DNS Server In Campus

With the rapid development of the network, it provides more and more service and convenient for us. Internet becomes an indispensable part in our daily life. So is the network in campus. Teachers and students can share resources and exchange information through the campus network. The DNS server in the campus mainly take responsibility for the domain name resolution. We can say that the campus network plays an important role in our successfully visiting the network. However, the DNS server in our campus sometimes works exceptionally. It will seriously affect the teachers and students for their access to the Internet if we can not find and solve the problem in time. So, it is particularly important to ensure that our DNS server is working well by monitoring its performances.The monitoring system of DNS server in campus we research in this paper is based on the synthesized monitor of performance indexes of DNS host server and the flow packets that pass by. Firstly we will research the protocol of SNMP and its operational principle, then we find the objects and objects'ID of these DNS host server's performance indexes in the MIB so that we can monitor these performance indexes of DNS host server through visiting these objects. We researh and analyze an anomaly detection method based on the combination of similarity and entropy detection based on the Winpcap software development kit. This detection method is an improvement and combination of them with a higher efficiency. With the preceding research, we develop and realize the DNS performance monitoring system. It can let the DNS server in our campus run efficiently. When it happens that the DNS server works not so well, this system can first detect the problem and find out why it happens, then give an alarm and provide corresponding solutions.
