The explosion of information leads to the large Internet scale which exceeds theimagination of the original designer. So a new version of IP needs to be developed. IPv6which has128bit address solves parts of the problems such as address exhaustion,overloading of backbone routers’ route table capacity. The change from IPv4to IPv6is ahuge engineer and needs lots of work and time. During the transition varieties ofperformance test is needed to assure the efficiency and reliability of the IPv6network anddevice because of the complexity of the network environment and immature technology.Performance test provides device and network performance data for the hardwaremanufacturers、software developers and network users. It provides important basis for thedevelopment of service quality, network structure and the parameter configuration.This paper research the performance test of network device based on IPv6, whichaims at providing a complete performance test of IPv6network device. According to theresearch of network testing methods, the chosen and analysis of active testing and passivetesting method, the chosen of testing tool and development tool, develops a kind of IPv6performance test system. The system selects SNMP(Simple Network ManagementProtocol)for network performance monitoring, research the required performance index,design the database tables, uses SNMP to read the MIB(Management Information Base)of the managed object, and then analysis the index value. The system uses SNMP++ofHP as the development tool and the development language is C++. Finally the paper haveaccomplished the software part of the system and done some test under real conditions.The validity is certificated.
