Railway is an important infrastructure. It plays a vital role in economy and public transportation, and gives a great impetus on social and economic growth. As railway transportation keeps developing, it has a variety of requirements for locomotives concerning aspects like power and speed, and other requirements also include delivering on scheduled. Even under such circumstances, the locomotive order is still small, and some are ordered no more than ten. Besides, a locomotive can serve more than 35year in its lifetime, but as new-technology has been developed and applied on new locomotives, the upgrading cycle for a new-locomotive is less than that, therefore, the old manufacture techniques can no longer adequately handle and meet the swiftly-changed market requirements.So, the advanced design technology of the locomotive body is researched in this paper. It employs the modular design methods based on system engineering ideology by combining the structural module and functional module together and employing the advanced computer assisting technology, can resolve the contradiction between standardized products and custom made products, which will greatly improve the efficiency and quality on design and manufacture.Firstly, the main structure parts of the locomotive body are analyzed in this paper, and the module divide principle is employed to divide locomotive-body into different modules, and the locomotive body's main parameters and structure parameters for each module are set. At the same time, the relationship between those established parameters, including shape correlations and dimension correlations, is analyzed and established.Secondly, the modular design process based on UG is researched. On one hand, modular modeling is realized based on UG WAVE technology and interpart expression modeling technology, and the fast regeneration system for the engineering drawings is established. On the other hand, the key technique to realize locomotive-body modular design based on UG redevelopment software is researched, and the menu source file and customer source file of locomotive-body modular design system by employing UG/Open as a redevelopment tool are created.Finally, the locomotive-body modular design system is established, and the main program for the locomotive-body modular design system is written under the Window XP Operation System by adopting VC++6.0 as a developing platform and using Access as database. This system has a friendly Human-Computer interface that can be easily operated, and it improves the efficiency of locomotive body design work, with certain practical values.
