Wireless sensor network (WSN) is one of the IT hotspot technologies which has a significant impact on the human lifestyle of the 21st century after internet. WSNs with the feature of rapid tissue, invulnerability and so on, it has an irreplaceable status in military, industry and many other areas of life. Generally speaking, the sensor node energy (battery powered) and the limited computational capabilities greatly hindered the development of WSNs. Therefore, it becomes a core issue of network operation performance improvement and WSN network lifetime extension. The first part of the research is about multi-base station positioning of WSN based on clustering which is used in pre-laying and planning of WSN, we make the amount of network data and the minimum data of the node as objective function, and then optimize the multi-sink position through CPLEX.The second part of the research is about clustering based protocol study of WSN. An energy-efficient routing based on clustering—MHEECP ( multi-hop and energy-efficient clustering protocol)is proposed on the basis of the research on protocol LEACH. The design of MHEECP can be divided into the following two fields: first, we choose the cluster head through considering both the position of sensor nodes and residual energy. Second, layered Dijkstra routing algorithm is used for communication between cluster-members and cluster-head. we design simulation cases to verify the performance of the algorithm using MATLAB. The simulation result shows that MHEECP protocol extends life cycle by 11% compared to LEACH protocol, and improves the throughput slightly.
