With the safety problems of student apartment increasing, colleges and universities urgently need an effective means to manage the student quarters scientifically and normatively. Barrier-free access machine with automatic identification, timely detection of illegal users and alarm functions, has become a feasible solution to help provide an effective way of standardized management of student apartments. At present, some of the universities have installed the barrier-free access system at their dormitories. Current barrier-free access systems generally use desktop PCs as the monitoring terminals, which make the total cost of the system hard to reduce, furthermore, high price prevent the system from being widespread. Therefore, this article presents an embedded barrier-free access system based on WinCE operating system. The system is equipped with an embedded WinCE device as a monitoring client, effectively reducing overall system cost and also the power consumption.In this paper, the barrier-free access is divided into two subsystems:aisle control and integrated management. The former subsystem is based on the C/S architecture, the client uses a S3C6410-based hardware development platform, and is equips with WinCE embedded operating system, and installed the management software to provide real-time monitoring and alarm functions. In terms of the database choice, we use the Microsoft SQL Server CE 2005 for local data preservation and synchronization with the server. In the sever part, Microsoft SQL Server 2005 is to be the server database, using its merge replication function to synchronize with clients. Integrated management subsystem is based on the B/S architecture, on which a management website is released. With proper authority, managers can visit and get access in the website using any computer which is connected to the server by the VPN.The main topics of the subject include the following:1. Build the embedded development platform. Customize the kernel of WinCE embedded operating system. 2. System database construction, selection and design of solution for synchronization.3. Design of the management software for the client in the aisle control subsystem. The main functions of the software include judging the Legitimacy of the passers, displaying users'basic information, system settings, login authentication and so on.4. Design of the integrated management website. Through the site, administrators can manage all the users (usually boarding students) and devices, also they can filter and query a variety of information.
