China Telecom' Broadband Internet Evolution Strategy For IPv6

With the rapid development of Internet, and the IP address resource constantly exhausted, the evolution from IPv4 to IPv6 is increasingly speed up the pace. China telecom is the largest domestic Internet operator. In order to solve the problem of IPv4 addresses shortage and to keep the Leading position of Internet network and service, it has been always actively involved in research and promotion of IPv6. In recent years, China telecom starts IPv6 trial commercial process. In Hunan MAN (Metropolitan Area Network), Jiangsu MAN, World Expo and World Universiade, different evolution strategies have been tested and experimented. IPv6 evolution has laid a good foundation.Based on the research of IPv6 protocol and the research of IPv6 transition technology, the evolution strategy of next generation Internet has been given combined with the present situation of Chinese telecom broadband Internet. And through the case analysis of Hunan MAN's IPv6 trial commercial projects and Jiangsu MAN's IPv6 trial commercial projects, various evolution strategies were verified which can be used in network, service, support system, and application. This paper mainly studies the content as follows:1. Comparing IPv4 protocol with IPv6 protocol, including the new characteristics, IPv6 protocol address structure, packet format, ICMP and neighbors discovery, routing protocol.2. Undertaking a comprehensive study of the three transitional technologies and thorough analysis of their realization principle and application scenarios which evolute from IPv4 to IPv6.3. Designing the next generation broadband Internet, and making corresponding network, business and support system evolutional strategy according to China telecom broadband Internet network status.4. Carrying out research of Hunan MAN's IPv6 trial commercial and Jiangsu MAN's IPv6 trial commercial. On the network level, analyzing comprehensively the upgrading and reconstruction implementation plan of China telecom broadband Internet backbone, metropolitan area network and access network. In service and support system level, combined with end-to-end service process walk-through, presenting the transformation content of IPv6 systems, which are AAA, CRM, Service Process System and DNS system and so on. Finally, based on broadband access service, IDC IPv6 transformation of business experiment and the campus network, Internet service such as the VNET of the deployment, network evolution strategy was verified.Overall, by IPv6 protocol and its transition technology research, combined with the application of IPv6 trial commercial projects, this article gives the evolution strategies that can be used in network, service, support, and application on IPv6 transition of China telecom broadband Internet, And provides reference for development of China telecom's next generation broadband Internet planning construction.
