The earliest catalog of Chinese ancient book series is the First Catalog of Book Series dated from 1799. Later, several scholars such as Fu Yunlong, Zhu Xueqin, Zhu Jirong, Liu Shengmu, Sun Dianqi, all made additions to that catalog. In 1920s, modern libraries raised, those libraries started to catalog their own book series. Also, they made indexes for catalog of book series. Shi Tingyong had been Liberian in Tsinghua University Library, Nanjing University Library and other libraries. He collected many Chinese ancient book series and compiled the Comprehensive Catalog of Book Series since 1930. Besides recording catalog, Mr. Shi also took notes of important Chinese ancient book series. The Comprehensive Catalog of Chinese Book Series was published in 1959, which Established more consummate Classification System of Chinese ancient book series. Yang Haiqing made efforts in cataloging book series which started from 1970s, and compiled the Correction of the Comprehensive Catalog of Chinese Book Series, the extensive catalog of Chinese book series, the entire catalog of Chinese ancient books:Chinese ancient book series and other catalogs.This thesis consists of three chapters, which focus on cataloging of book series in Qing Dynasty, the Republic of China, and the People's Republic of China. By describing all the catalogs of Chinese ancient book series in details, the originals of these catalogs can be found. This thesis also arranges these catalogs systematically, and discovers many differences among them.
