In order to raising the level of investigation on dynamic characteristics of airborne radar pedestal, this paper study mode analysis of radar pedestal by means of both theoretic mode analysis and experimental mode analysis.According to theories correlative with mode analysis, this paper research on finite element modeling of joint-part firstly. Different finite element model of typical connection modes is applied to theoretic mode analysis. By comparing the obtained testing modal and theoretical modal, we can obtained modeling methods to setup precise equivalent dynamic mode of bolted joint, welded structure, riveted structure, gear pairs and bearing fit, select appropriate theoretic calculation method to get equivalent dynamic factor of joint-part. Furthermore, we conduct theoretic mode analysis and experimental mode analysis of an airborne radar pedestal, and compare the actual test result with simulation data. The result of analysis indicates that the theoretic mode analysis model is correct, the model of joint-part is reasonable, the result of mode analysis is exact, the method of experimental mode analysis is feasible, and the information of low-rank mode is not missed.Through above investigation, we can improve the theoretic mode analysis precision, predicate the system's resonant frequency more accurately which can be the base dada to improve model's dynamic capabilities. At the same time, study mode experiment methods of radar pedestal, summarize the experience and rule of testing technology, and thus provide guideline for similar mode experiment.
